Transforming Your Wedding Arrangements

One of our true loves on the farm is floral design. We love doing floral designs for Weddings and other occasions because flowers provide emotions and can give a sense of calm or excitement to the day. Being a floral designer allows us to be creative, keep true to our organic environmental initiatives, and create a product that we know our customers will love and remember for years to come. Working with botanicals as a medium comes natural (no pun intended) for us and we would not want it any other way. We love what we do and thoroughly enjoy creating botanical designs or giving you DIY buckets of blooms for your special days.

We hate that the floral industry is inundated with toxic chemicals with pesticides and herbicides. Many people think we are crazy for growing certified organic flowers, but we believe it is so important. Who wants a flower on their special day that has been doused in chemicals? Not us! So we began growing as many different kinds of flower varieties we could to use in our designs in addition to selling retail and wholesale with. We want people to see all the varieties that can be grown locally in our area and use that variety to come up with new, invigorating designs.

I think the best weddings are when the couple trusts your ability and really gives you the artistic freedom to design their space. Sometimes couples are so wrapped up in pinterest boards etc, that they can’t see

beyond them. Do not get me wrong, pinterest can help   get an idea, but floral designers can take the hints that   you love from those photos and really make it a work of   art using flowers that are in season to enhance the   ambience and atmosphere on your special day.

Simplicity can be key! Not every nook and   corner has to   be loaded with flowers to make  a space have impact. Using space between flowers (known as negative space) gives a more simplistic feeling and can create a lighter feel to the event.

All flowers give different feels. For example, darker flowers give a heavier feel in arrangements compared to lighter colored flowers. Therefore, by placing the darker flowers lower and pops of light color upwards, your eyes are drawn up and provide a feeling of calm. When you look at an arrangement you want to feel a sense of calm versus stress.  When we teach floral design we show different arrangements and go through the feelings they give and explain why you may be feeling this way in terms of balance, color, proportion, container rules and more. Weddings and celebrations of life allow us to convey emotions and tone with flowers and it truly is an art that we thoroughly enjoy!

Flowers that are more round and full faced like a dahlia, zinnia, daisy, rudbeckia, lisianthus are considered mass flowers. Opposite are line flowers, which grow in a more stalk-like habit such as hyssop, snapdragons, delphiniums, and salvia. Too many of each, makes your arrangements and bouquets not feel natural/calming. Too many mass flowers at the top of an arrangement creates a stressed look. Therefore, just as in nature, mass flowers tend to do best near the lower sections, oftentimes creating the focal point of an arrangement while the line flowers above help to create the overall shape and direction of the arrangement!
